Dreaming of Laughing Hawk edition by Linda Katmarian Romance eBooks Reviews

It's 1964 and Elizabeth is at a crossroads; she has been accepted into a prestigious college the same day her mother decides to leave her and her stepfather. When Elizabeth is unsure what to do now, her stepfather encourages her to take a trip to California and visit her cousin and aunt. Once in California, Elizabeth starts working to save money for tuition. Her new boss, Collin has her heart doing flips every time he touches her. The sparks blossom into a full-blown relationship but Collin isn't the only man after Elizabeth. Mark Laughing Hawk is working his way through school to become a doctor when he spots Elizabeth at a company picnic. This love triangle gets heated when Collin's jealousy and control issues come out while Hawk and Elizabeth's friendship ebbs and flows throughout the story.

Author Linda Katmarian has woven a beautiful love story that made me cry, clinch my fists in anger and feel butterflies in my stomach. Katmarian has done an excellent job of creating flawed characters that are truly human and relatable. I loved the tension between Hawk and Elizabeth as they both came to terms with their attraction to each other while trying to navigate their social situations. In addition to the romance in the story, I really enjoyed the social issues that were discussed in the book. The presence of racism and a group of hopeful college kids trying to change the world gave a realistic view of the world in the `60s.

This masterfully executed book is a must read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a well-rounded story, romance and a little history. Katmarian has a bright future as a novelist, and I am looking forward to reading her books in the future.

(This book was provided to Compulsion Reads for review by the author.)
As a writer, it's difficult to weave multiple characters and plot lines into something cohesive and beautiful. This book is successful at all of that. The characters are interesting and often show real complexity. The several plot lines, though initially disparate, are eventually interwoven in meaningful ways.

Elizabeth is the foremost character, and the story is experienced through her. She's smart, funny, stubborn, and honest. I was rooting for her throughout. Her love interests are, well ..., interesting. I wondered whom she would ultimately choose. Lizzy's disappointing family and sad dynamics add to the texture of her life.

I don't want to spoil the fun by discussing the plot lines, but this is a fantastic story, told well. This book is for fans of romance, political history, suspense, and Native Americans. There's also a spiritual side, courtesy of some vague religious feelings and some dream analyses.

My one pinprick Motor vehicles have "brakes," not "breaks." There are typos, but not many, and try finding a book these days that has zero typos. This being said, I hope I've sparked your interest, and that you will give this book a try.
this book had been recommended by a friend. I wasn't sure what it was about or what I was getting into, but I definitely enjoyed reading this. the title was a tad deceiving
It has been a while since I read Laughing Hawk, so I'm unable to give a terribly detailed review. I did like it enough that I'm checking back to see more work from this author. It is a well-written and compelling story that engages your emotions. This one stays on my virtual keeper shelf.
Ms. Katmarian has captured a time in our country's recent history and an enduring love story in a beautifully-written style. Her characters are strong, opinionated, and easily recognized as people we know and love/detest. If you wish a glimpse of the forces which have helped to shape our culture, as well as the forces which form unsurpassed love, then this is your next "must read."
Great first novel for Linda Katmarian. I didn't know what to expect, knew very little about the story, and delved right in. Her characters spring to life, the scenes you witness through the author's eyes are very real. A great story of love end devotion. Make no mistake, the author is there, she is not intrusive, she's just making sure you are seeing and hearing and feeling everything that is going on - a rarity of late. Kudos!
I really enjoyed this book, even more than I thought while I was reading it. I find myself thinking about the characters and the plot even now, several weeks after finishing the novel.
I don't typically care for books set in the 60's but this one is the exception.
In relation to the plot, in the beginning I wasn't sure where it was going except it seemed to head off in a Cinderella motif. Then things changed. I like that the main character was true to herself. I also love the line "...she will have to decide. You can't bully her and I can't seduce her..." or something similar. It is one of the things I continue to consider.
I look forward to more novels by this author.
